March 8, 2010 | Powered paragliding launched in Hyderabad | Hyderabad: In a maiden attempt in India, enthusiasts took to the skies of Hyderabad in a powered paraglider, launched for the first time in the country. Dean Eldridge, Senior Pilot of Thrust Aviation, a UK based parajet company, is promoting paragliding in India, by giving training to the young people in India. "It is being used
in India at the moment and I am helping
for the promotion with the Thrust Aviation. They are responsible for certifying
the use of aircraft in India and so I am helping them here conduct a training
course in India with a syllabus adopted from a British syllabus we have for
paragliders,"
said Eldridge. Powered paragliding also known as paramotoring is a form of
ultra-light
aviation where the pilot wears a motor on their back. It provides enough thrust
to take off using a parachute style paraglide wing. It can be launched in still
air, and on level ground, by the pilot alone, without any assistance. Powered
paragliders usually fly between 15-45mph at altitudes of up to 18,000ft, although
most flying is done under 500ft. |
