March 8, 2010 | Indore Zoo celebrates birthday of two white tigers | Indore: Indore Zoo celebrated the birthday of two white tigers living there with an objective to propagate 'Save Tiger' amongst the people. The birthday bash for the tigers Riddhi and Siddhi was organised jointly
by the civic authorities and a voluntary organisation. The whole cage was decorated
in a grand manner with colourful paper strips and balloons. A huge number of
children
from across the city arrived at the zoo to be a part of the celebrations. The
enthusiastic children even brought self-made birthday greeting cards along with
them as presents for the tigers. "To make the children aware about the tigers
and they being endangered, we have organised this birthday bash for two of our
tigers. Children seem very excited as they have made birthday greeting cards for
Riddhi and Siddhi," said C B Singh, commissioner, Indore. Poaching and loss of
habitat have caused tiger numbers to plunge from around 40,000 to about 1,411
at the beginning of the 21st century in India, a country with patchy environmental
awareness and uneven local governance needed for an effective crackdown on
poachers. |
