April 11, 2010 | Australian woman to make second attempt on Mt Everest | Adelaide: An Australian woman, who turned back just 400 metres short
of the 8848m summit of Mount Everest in 2007, will join a team led by fellow Australian climber Duncan Chessell for her second attempt. If successful this time around,
Katie Sarah would be the sixth Australian woman to reach the top of the world’s highest mountain. The 41-year-old, and a mother of three, will fly out for Beijing
on Monday morning, and from there she will take a train to Lhasa , Tibet , before
a truck ride to Everest base camp. Sarah said she expects to arrive at base camp
on April 24, and subsequently reach the top of the Everest on May 22 or 23. “It’s
just a challenge to see if I can do it. I’m not obsessed – it’s not the summit
or nothing,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Sarah , as saying. She further said
her children, aged 15, 13 and 12, were very excited for her. “They know that I
won't be taking stupid risks,” Sarah said. |
