April 27, 2010 | Govt to undertake Rs 1,011 cr Mission Mode Project for Visa | New Delhi: The Government is going to ensure modernization and
upgradation of immigration services in the country through a Mission Mode Project (MMP) under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP). Minister for State for Home
Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran, in a written reply to a question in the Lok
Sabha on Tuesday, said: "Modernization and upgradation of immigration services
in the country is a Mission Mode Project (MMP) to be undertaken by the Ministry
of Home Affairs under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP)." The total estimated
cost of the project is Rs. 1011 crore. The project is to be implemented in a planned
and phased manner over a period of 4 1/2 years i.e. with effect from April, 2010
to September, 2014. The MMP is titled "Immigration, Visa and Foreigners Registration
and Tracking (IVFRT)". The minister stated that this project aims to develop a
secure and integrated service delivery framework to enhance security and facilitation
in the Visa Issuance process, strengthen the Immigration function besides fortifying
the Foreigners Registration Processes for effective tracking of foreigners. "With
the implementation of this project, all the 169 Indian Missions across the globe,
77 Immigration Check Posts (ICPs), and the Foreigners Regional Registration Offices
(FRROs)/Foreigners' Registration Offices (FROs) in the country would be linked
with the Central Foreigners' Bureau (CFB)," Mr. Mullappally Ramachandran stated
in his written reply. |
