May 27, 2010 | Shimla becomes a 'hot spot' as temperatures soar | Shimla: Shimla is experiencing 'hot' weather with temperature touching 30.9 degree Celsius.
"From the very beginning,
we have never seen the temperature crossing 27 to 28 degrees (Celsius), but this
time it has crossed 30 degrees, so it is a very unexpected incident that has never
happened before," said Ashok Kukreja. Meteorologists feel that the lack of rainfall
in neighbouring states have affected the temperature of Shimla. "If we talk about
Himachal Pradesh as a whole, as recently there has been no rainfall so the temperature
has been rising, it is much more than normal temperature. And since in the neighbouring
areas like Punjab, Delhi , Haryana there has been no rainfall, it has affected
our area as well," Singh said. Usually, until the onset of the monsoon, the months
of May and June are the hottest in the country, with the temperatures often in
the range of 40 to 45 degrees Celsius at many places. However, this year the mercury
shot beyond the 50 degree Celsius mark in May in parts of the country, portending
extreme temperatures ahead. |
