Langur earns 10,000 per month in Kanpur!

Kanpur: A simian in Kanpur city of Uttar Pradesh has become a major draw for local public here, as it has been deployed to guard offices and locals in the neighbourhood. It so happened that officials of Employee's State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) here were perturbed by a herd of monekys. Having failed to find a solution for the everyday problem, they decided to employ a langur, a special breed of monkey. The langur has been assigned the responsibility to protect the employees and residents of the vicinity. Stating the reason for taking the service of a langur, ESIC's Deputy Director Prakash Chandra Sharma said: "If a langur is on the campus, then the other monkeys get scared of it and they run away leaving the area." Local residents say that the monkeys' menace had become an everyday headache. "The other monkeys had terrified the people in the colony, office. They used to tear the files in the office...first there was a grill put up to protect the people. But they still managed to tear the files and horrified the children in the locality so much that they were scared to even come out of their houses," says Ram Prakash, an employee and resident. The 'new employee' of the Corporation sits at the entrance gate of the campus like other security personnel and ensures that the place remains free of monkeys. Well, for its services, the langur's owner pockets Rs.10,000 a month!
