June 15, 2010 | Pre-monsoon showers give relief to Surat | Surat: The pre-monsoon showers in Gujarat's Surat city, on Tuesday provided a much needed relief to the local residents from the scorching heat. The showers in most parts of Gujarat helped in bringing down
the temperature that had been continuously rising over the past few weeks. The
mercury was hovering over 35 degree Celsius. The showers delighted the local residents,
as many of them were seen enjoying it. "We were fed up of the heat so we are enjoying
the rain...we are planning to go on a long drive with friends," said Ankita Chowdhary.
"We are enjoying a lot. We are waiting eagerly for the rains because climate in
Surat was very hot. We received rains after a very long time," said Pooja a local
resident. The temperature has come down too but we will not be able to enjoy the
rain because of our offices, still we are planning to bunk them so that we can
enjoy the showers," she added. Usually, the monsoon covers most of the northern
region by July 1. However, the southwest monsoon is likely to enter Gujarat state
in the next 48 hours by June 15 or 16. |
