UP middle schools to reopen for grades 6 to 8 on Monday, grades 1 to 5 on Sept 1
Uttar Pradesh schools will resume in-person classes for grades 6 to 8 from August 23 and for grades 1 to 5 from September 1. Classes for students of grades 9 to 12 are already running in shifts, reducing the strength to 50%, with strict covid protocol from August 16. Technical and vocational educational institutions in the State are also now open.

LUCKNOW, Aug 20: The schools in Uttar Pradesh will reopen for students of grades 6 to 8 from August 23 and grades 1 to 5 from September 1. The State has already allowed physical classes in schools for students of grades 9 to 12 with strict covid protocol from August 16.

“The order has been issued to open schools for students of Classes 6-8 from September 23 and for Classes 1-5 from September 1," officials had said on Wednesday. The order followed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asking them to consider resumption of in-person teaching activity for Classes 6 to 8 from August 23 as the covid infection has been showing a steady decline for over a month after the second wave.

Different dates have been chosen for the reopening in order to stagger the gatherings and closely observe for any fresh infections taking place. Besides, August 23 has been fixed to avoid the Rakshabandhan festival on Sunday.

Classes started from Monday with 50 per cent capacity in secondary, higher, technical and vocational educational institutions in the State as per the advice of the State level Health Experts' Advisory Committee.

Classes are run in two shifts everywhere. The first shift runs from 8 am to 12 noon and the second from 12.30 pm to 4.30 pm, reducing the strength to 50%. Classes are held from Monday to Friday. Students had been told to take the permission of their parents to attend the classes. Face mask has been made mandatory for all.
