Ghani's foreign ministry asks embassies to continue under old regime
The statement issued on behalf of the former Afghan Foreign Ministry, representing the previous regime, has “condemned” the announcement of a new Government by the Taliban as "illegitimate and unjustifiable”.

NEW DELHI, Sept 8: The foreign ministry of the previous regime in Afghanistan headed by President Ashraf Ghani who fled the country in the face of advancing Taliban fighters has issued a statement condemning the formation of a new Government by the militants in Kabul.

After seizing control of the country on August 15 as the occupying US troops were leaving and Ghani fled, the Taliban had on Tuesday last set up its own Government.

The statement issued on behalf of the Afghan Foreign Ministry, representing the previous regime, on Wednesday, “condemned” the announcement by the Taliban as "illegitimate and unjustifiable”.

“All missions of the IR of Afghanistan will continue the normal functions and duties based on the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan,'' says the statement.

There has not been any reaction from the Government of India to the statement nor the formation of Taliban Government.

“The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, which emanates from the free will of the people and epitomizes the vision and aspirations of millions of citizens who made the ultimate sacrifice for the cause of sovereignty, democracy, freedom and independence of their country, condemned the announcement by the Taliban,” the statemenrt said.

The statement said the Taliban's move "goes against the will of the absolute majority of the people of Afghanistan.” It "undermines the national interests of Afghanistan, including security, stability, unity, and prosperity of the country and its people”.

Earlier, soon after Taliban seized power in Afghanistan, several tweets had appeared on the handle of the Afghan embassy in India attacking President Ghani for fleeing the country. However, Abdulhaq Azad, press secretary of the Afghan embassy in Delhi, later said the account has been hacked. "I have lost access to the Twitter handle of Afghan Embassy India, a friend sent a screenshot of this tweet, (this tweet is hidden from me.) I have tried to log in but can’t access it. Seems it is hacked," Azad tweeted.
