Johnson reshuffles Cabinet, names Liz Truss as the new Foreign Minister

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has reshuffled his Cabinet, stripping Dominic Raab's Foreign Minister portfolio and naming Liz Truss as the new Foreign Minister. Gavin Williamson also goes.

LONDON, Sept 16: Prime Minister Boris Johnson has reshuffled his Cabinet, dropping Foreign Minister Dominic Raab and replacing him with Liz Truss. Raab had been widely criticized over his handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal.

As per the Downing Street announcement on Wednesday Raab will continue to be the Deputy Prime Minister. He was also named Lord Chancellor. Justice Minister Robert Buckland gives up the post for Raab.

Liz Truss will also continue as Minister for Women and Equalities. The second woman to hold the position in Britain, Liz Truss wants the world to ‘get tough with China.' "The daughter of a left-wing professor and a nurse, Truss was a member of the centrist Liberal Democrats at university before her ideological shift to the Conservatives, where in 2014 she made an infamous defence of British cheese," SCMP wrote. She was not for Brexit in the 2016 referendum but changed her mind later.

Elizabeth studied philosophy, politics and economics at Merton College, Oxford. She entered Parliament in 2010 and was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Education and Childcare in September 2012. Elizabeth served as the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs from July 2014 until July 2016.Elizabeth was Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice from July 2016 until June 2017. She was Chief Secretary to the Treasury from June 2017 until July 2019. Elizabeth also worked in the energy and telecommunications industry for 10 years as a commercial manager and economics director, and is a qualified management accountant.Elizabeth is married with 2 children.

Education Minister Gavin Williamson who made a mix-up of two Black British sports stars, rugby player Maro Itoje for Manchester United soccer player Marcus Rashford, is also dropped. Previously he was removed as Defence Minister in 2019.

"It has been a privilege to serve as Education Secretary since 2019," he wrote. "Despite the challenges of the global pandemic, I'm particularly proud of the transformational reforms I've led in Post 16 education: in further education colleges, our Skills agenda, apprenticeships and more."

Nadhim Zahawi, formerly Vaccines Minister, will be the new Education Minister. Minister for Housing, Communities and Local Government Robert Jenrick has been replaced by Michael Gove .

Indian origin Priti Sushil Patel stays as Home Minister. So also Alok Sharma and Rishi Sunak retain their positions.
