150 Chinese warplanes violate Taiwan's air space, Taipei issues warning
Taiwan has issued radio warnings and deployed air defence missile systems after Monday's incursion of 56 fighter jets, the largest number in the four days. The 25 PLA planes involved in the daylight incursion on Friday included 18 J-16 fighters, four Su-30 fighters, two H-6 bombers and one Y-8 anti-submarine warfare aircraft. And the night incursions included 10 J-16s, two H-6s and one KJ-500, airborne early warning aircraft.

TAIPEI, Oct 5: China has conducted its biggest-ever air operations over Taiwan's sovereign airspace using more than 150 warplanes, including nuclear bombers, in the past four days with a view to intimidating the country into surrender as it has been claiming Taiwan as its territory. Taiwan is a democratic, independent, sovereign republic.

On Monday the PLAAF (People's Liberation Army Air Force) sent the largest number of 56 warplanes. Taipei said it will respond to any incursion. The Defence Ministry said radio warnings were issued and air defence missile systems were deployed to monitor the activity.

President Tsai Ing-wen has warned that there would be "catastrophic" consequences if China threatens its sovereignty. "It would signal that in today's global contest of values, authoritarianism has the upper hand over democracy," she said.

Taiwan's policy-making body, the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), accused Beijing of "seriously damaging the status quo of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait".

"We demand the Beijing authorities immediately stop its non- peaceful and irresponsible provocative actions," MAC spokesman Chiu Chui-cheng said in a statement.

"China is the culprit for causing tensions between the two sides of the (Taiwan) Strait and it has further threatened regional security and order," he said. Taiwan "will never compromise and yield" to threats.

China warns US

China accused Washington of being the provocateurs and warned against supporting Taiwanese independence.

"Engaging in Taiwan independence is a dead end. China will take all steps needed and firmly smash any Taiwan independence plots," the Chinese Defence Ministry said.

China had stepped up air incursions since last year. It sent 38 warplanes into Taiwan last Friday, which was the highest number of Chinese military aircraft to violate Taiwan air space in a single day.

The Air Force planes came in two formations, the Taiwan's Defence Ministry said. Twenty-five warplanes entered the southwestern corner of the the air defence zone ADIZ daylight hours and another 13 planes entered the island's southwest in the night, Friday, the Ministry said in a statement.

The 25 PLA planes involved in the daylight incursion included 18 J-16 fighters, four Su-30 fighters, two H-6 bombers and one Y-8 anti-submarine warfare aircraft. And the night incursions included 10 J-16s, two H-6s and one KJ-500, airborne early warning aircraft, it said.

The incursions on Friday as Beijing celebrated 72 years of founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949.
