Flash floods inundate Hyderabad; Two persons washed away in current

HYDERABAD, Oct 9: Heavy rains continued to lash Hyderabad on Saturday, flooding several more areas. The weather office has predicted thunderstorm in Yadadri, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Khammam districts.

Due to the flash floods on Friday, the city was flooded. Shops, homes, roads and everything came under water. Trffic came to a standstill. Wall collapse reports were pouring in. In one instance, at least 30 bikes came under a crashing wall. People were warned to stay idoors as more rains were predicted.

Two persons were washed away in the forceful current of running water as drainages overflowed due to heavy rains in Vanasthalipuram. Rainwater entered a restaurant in Old City after incessant rains lashed Hyderabad. Household items were seen washed away. Even vehicles were swept away.

Several flights were cancelled due to waterlogging at the airport.:- i5 1428 (BBI-HYD) – diverted to BLR, 6E 697 (COK-HYD), 6E 631 (BBI-HYD), UK 879 (DEL-HYD), 6E 501 diverted to Vijayawada, 9i 517 (BLR-HYD), AI 619 (BOM-HYD) – diverted to BLR, and 6E 884 (TIR-HYD) diverted to MAA.

Commuters made their way through flooded streets. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the city. Monsoon emergency teams are on field. Citizens are advised to stay indoors, the mayor said.
