William Shatner flies to space aboard Blue Origin's New Shepard

LAUNCH SITE ONE (West Texas), Oct 13: After suffering a setback to its second space trip scheduled for Tuesday which was aborted due to bad weather, Blue Origin's New Shepard took off on Wednesday morning (local time) with 90-year old Star Trek actor William Shatner aboard.

The flight carried astronauts Dr Chris Boshuizen and Glen de Vries (two paying customers), Audrey Powers (Blue Origin’s vice-president of mission and flight operations) and William Shatner. The NS-18 mission successfully completed its second human spaceflight and returned to earth as scheduled. They lifted off at 10:50 am ET and the entire flight lasted roughly 10 minutes.

The mission was delayed by an hour for a repeat check of the rocket. At 250,000 feet, the New Shepard capsule separated from the rocket and flew to the edge of space.

Blue Origin's owner, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, escorted the four to the launch pad and greeted them when they touched down again.

Shortly after emerging from the capsule, Shatner said: "It was unbelievable. I'm so filled with emotion."

The crew was welcomed back from space with a celebration in the West Texas desert with family, friends and the Blue Origin team, the space travel company said.

Blue Origin is planning one more crewed flight this year and several more for 2022.

The private spaceflight company founded by Bezos invites those interested in flying to space on New Shepard to book their flight on its website: Book Here

Earlier in the first Blue Origin manned flight, Bezos had flown to space alongwith others. Before Bezos, British billionaire Richard Branson with his team became the first civilians to go to space. Third to send a manned trip to space was another billionaire, Tesla's Elon Musk.
