Ex-PM Manmohan Singh diagnosed with dengue; condition stable, says AIIMS

NEW DELHI, Oct 17: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi has been diagnosed with dengue. Doctors said on Saturday his condition is stable.

The 89-year-old Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP was admitted to the AIIMS on Wednesday evening after he complained of fever and weakness.

Doctors said his platelet count is increasing and his condition is improving.

Singh has been admitted to a private ward in the cardio-neuro centre of the hospital and is under the care of a team of cardiologists led by Dr Nitish Naik.

Earlier this year, on April 19, he had tested positive for coronavirus infection and was admitted to the AIIMS trauma centre in Delhi, which was a covid hospital then. He had taken both the doses of covid vaccine.

Singh has a history of heart-related ailments. He had undergone a heart surgery and other cardiac interventions multiple times. In May last year he was admitted to the AIIMS after he had complained of chest pain.

He held the office of the Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. He was also the Finance Minister when the late PV Narasimha Rao was the Prime Minister in the early 1990s.
