3 tourists die in Kinnaur snowfall; Shooting stones injure 3 in Jammu

SHIMLA, Oct 26: Three tourists from Mumbai died in snowfall in Himachal's Kinnaur district on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Deepak Narayan (58), Rajender Pathak (65) and Ashok Madhukar (64), according to official sources.

There were 13 tourists in the group, 12 from Mumbai and one from Delhi. They were heading to Sangla in Kinnaur from Janglik in Shimla via Barua Kanda when they were caught in bad weather. The remaining 10 tourists who were stranded were safely evacuated and brought to Karchham, Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Apoorva Devgan told Firstpost. A team of ITBP personnel has been sent to bring the three bodies, he said.

Tourists and locals in Kinnaur high ranges have been warned against 'shooting stones' due to rains. They have also been advised not to go to high altitudes as of the district due to bad weather and snowfall.

Search is on to find two tourists of an 11-member team that was trekking to Chitkul in Kinnaur from Harsil in Uttarakhand. Seven of them were found dead and two were rescued last week.

Sadhan Kumar Basak, Chandrasekhar Das, Saritsekhar Das, Sagar Dey and Murshidabad Medical College MBBS student Ranaghat were part of the team.

'Shooting stones' hit vehicle on J-K highway

SRINAGAR: Three people, including a couple, were injured when their vehicle was hit by 'shooting stones' on Jammu-Srinagar highway at Khhoni Nullah in Ramban district on Monday. They were driving to Jammu.

The injured were identified as Mudasir Ahmed, of Mattan in Anantnag, his wife Rashida Begum, and Mohammad Suhail. They were admitted to GMC Anatnag.

'Shooting stones' are pieces of rock that roll down the mountain slope at lightning speed.
