66 of 2,000 passengers onboard Cordelia cruise test covid positive in Goa

The cruise liner was carrying New Year revellers from Mumbai to Goa. Now anchored at Mormugao port since Sunday, a medical team is conducting the RT-PCR tests. Till all the results come, nobody will be allowed to disembark.

PANAJI, Jan 3: Sixty six of 2,000 passengers onboard the Cordelia luxury cruise ship sailing from Mumbai to Goa have tested covid positive. The cruise liner was carrying New Year revellers.

All the passengers will be confined to the vessel, now anchored at Mormugao port since Sunday, and will be tested. A medical team is conducting the RT- PCR tests. Till all the results come, nobody will be allowed to disembark.

“We have not allowed them to dock the ship. They have a tie-up with a private hospital for testing, and we’ve told them to test all passengers before they leave the ship,” Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said on Monday.

All the passengers are double-vaccinated. The ship's doctor said a crew member had complained of fever and tested positive earlier. All passengers and crew members are being tested and the infected crew member has been isolated on the ship.

Ship agent JM Baxi told ANI on Monday, "We got the information around 9 am from the ship doctor that a crew member has been tested positive. As soon as we got the information, we informed the Government authorities and stopped the ship outside."

It was the same ship from where actor Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan was arrested under the narcotics Act recently.

The covid cases are spiking in Goa with a Test Positivity Rate of 10%. All schools and colleges have been closed and a night curfew imposed. States like Delhi, Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Haryana and Punjab also have closed schools and colleges and imposed several restrictions to check the Omicron covid transmission.
