NEW DELHI, Jan 4: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has tested positive
for covid. He tweeted on Tuesday morning that he is isolating himself at home
and has only mild symptoms.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader has been in the past few days on a hectic
tour of Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh which are going to the hustings
in the coming months.
"I have tested positive for Covid. Mild symptoms. Have isolated myself at home.
Those who came in touch with me in last few days, kindly isolate yourself and
get yourself tested," Chief Minister's post said.
Delhi reported 4,099 new cases in the 24 hours and the the test positivity
rate (TPR) is 6.46 per cent, a steep climb from less than 0.5% a few days ago. One
death also occurred on Monday. Currently the Capital is under a Yellow Alert, closing schools and colleges and cinemas, restricting travel by transport like Metro to 50% capacity and malls and markets going on an 'odd-even' pattern of working.
"As per genome sequencing reports (of past few days), 81 per cent samples
were infected with Omicron. Most of the cases are of Omicron," Health Minister
Satyender Jain had said on Monday.
With TPR crossing the threshold of 5%, Delhi is in for a Red Alert mandating
total lockout. A DDMA decision is expected any moment.
