HYDERABAD, Feb 26: A woman trainee pilot was killed when her trainer aircraft
crashed in the agricultural fields of a village in Nalgonda district in Telangana
on Saturday morning. The trainee pilot, who was identified as Maheema Gajaraj,
29, of Ayanavaram in Chennai, was a student of a private Hyderabad aviation
institute.
The trainee pilot was flying from the Nagarjuna Sagar station of the institute,
Hyderabad Flytech Aviation Academy. She took off in her Cessna 152 aircraft
at around 10.30 am. She was flying the two-seater alone, it is learnt. The chopper
fell into the fields of Tungaturthi village of Peddavoora Mandal in Nalgonda.
Farmers alerted the police.
Eyewitnesses said the aircraft was coming from Nagarajuna Sagar side, crashed
and exploded in the fields at around 11:30 am. They said aircraft might have
lost control after hitting the highrise electric lines of the nearby 133kv transmission
tower. The parts were falling and there was also a sound of an explosion.
The trainee pilot's body was charred beyond recognition.
The Cessna 152 is an American two-seater, fixed-wing airplane used primarily
for flight training and personal use.
