NEW DELHI, June 18: After the third wave of Omicron covid coming to an end
early this year, several States are now reporting an uptick in the cases of
infection every day. There were 13,216 infections across the country and 23
fatalities on Saturday. The daily test positivity rate (TPR) was 2.73%.
Delhi reported 1,797 infections and three fatalities. The positivity rate was
7.71 per cent. There are 5,119 active cases in the Capital and 1,255 patients
recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.
Delhi has recorded over 1,300 cases on a fourth consecutive day and more than
1,000 daily cases for the fifth successive day. This is the highest since February
4, when the capital recorded 2,272 cases and 20 deaths and the TPR was 3.85
per cent.
Maharashtra reported 4,165 new cases of covid on Saturday, of which, 2,255
were from Mumbai, where two people died. Kerala reported 3,253 cases and seven
deaths. Tamil Nadu had 589 cases.
Karnataka recorded 750 new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday. Of the total 750,
716 cases were detected in Bengaluru. The positivity rate in the state has now
reached 3.06 per cent. However, the state did not witness any new pandemic-related
fatalities during the day.
There 4,825 active cases in Karnataka; 425 patients recovered from the disease
in the last 24 hours.
In the country as many as 8,148 parients recovered from the disease in the
last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 42,690,845.
According to the Union Ministry of Health Family Welfare, the total deaths
from covid so far is 524,840 and the caseload at 4,32,83,793. The active cases
stand at 68,108.
