Indian-American techie from Telangana shot dead in Maryland

"We did not want to send our son to the US. We wanted him to be here," his father lamented. The parents have appealed to the Government of India and the Telangana Government to help bring the body home.

The spike in weekend mass shootings in the US began with the May 14 shooting at a Buffalo, New York, supermarket that killed 10 people and the May 24 massacre at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, that left 19 students and two teachers dead.

Till last Monday, there have been 277 mass shootings in the US so far this year alone, according to Gun Violence Archive.

BALTIMORE (Maryland), June 23: An Indian American techie, Nakka Sai Charan, 26, who hailed from Nalgonda district of Telangana, was shot dead by an unidentified man in Catonsville, west of Baltimore, Maryland, on Sunday.

He was returning home after dropping a friend at the airport when he was shot at by a suspected Black. He was shot in the head inside his vehicle. He was found injured near Exit 50 of Caton Avenue, the main north-south inter-State highway on the East Coast, at 4.32 am on Sunday, and was taken to hospital where he died two hours later, according to Maryland Transportation Authority Police (MDTA).

Baltimore police have launched a homicide investigation.

A software engineer, Nakka Sai Charan was working with a company in Baltimore.

Nakka Sai Charan had left Nalgonda in Telangana for the United States four years ago for higher studies and later started working in Baltimore. His sister is also said to be studying in the US.

"We did not want to send our son to the US. We wanted him to be here. I had no interest in sending him there and told him not to go. But he insisted and then we allowed him to realise his wish as he was very particular to go to the US. We never imagined that he would be coming back as a dead body", his father Narasimha told reporters.

His family has appealed to the Government of India and the Telangana Government to help bring the body home.

The spike in weekend mass shootings began with the May 14 shooting at a Buffalo, New York, supermarket that killed 10 people and the May 24 massacre at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, that left 19 students and two teachers dead.

The gun violence has given a thrust to gun control campaigns across the country. Rallies are being held. The US Congress is a divided house on the issue with pro-gun lobby Republicans blocking any restrictions on firearms purchase.
