|
The robot fire engine is one of the two purchased by the Kejriwal
Government from Australia. It can penetrate inaccessible and
hazardous locations unmanned, guided by a remote (joystick) from some
200 metres away. It uses RF technology to detect fire and smoke and
find its way. (See a video) |
NEW DELHI, June 26: A major fire in a plastic godown in Rohini in north-west
Delhi was put out using a robot fire engine in the wee hours of Sunday.
The machine is one of two purchased by the Kejriwal Government from Australia.
One of them was used in a fire at a market in Tikri Kalan a few months ago.
The fire call was received at 2.18 am and 23 fire engines were rushed to the
spot. The robot fire engine was part of the firefighting team that put out the
fire. No injuries have been reported in the incident.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said that the robots would help reduce collateral
damage and save lives.
What is a robot fire engine
Robot fire engine is an unmanned support vehicle in firefighting operations,
developed to search and extinguish fire. In places too hot and dangerous for
firefighters and inaccessible to fire engines, the robots come as saviour. A
fireproof robot can be used as a water cannon as well as for relief and rescue
operations. The robots also have a sensor and camera installed. They are used
in large commercial fires. The massive Notre-Dame fire was extinguished by powerful
fire robots teleoperated with a joystick using RF technology.
