Five covid deaths in Delhi; India records spike in cases
Maharashtra and Rajasthan also reported five covid deaths each on Wednesday. The hospitalisation figure in the Capital too went up to 341 on Tuesday. Most of them were elderly or comorbid. In the last few days there were six to seven admissions a day. There were 50 deaths recorded in July, 50 in June and 35 in May. India recorded 17,135 new cases and 47 deaths in the past 24 hours, as per Union Health Ministry data of August 3. The previous day it was 13,734 cases and 34 deaths.

NEW DELHI, Aug 3: There were five covid deaths in Delhi on Wednesday. The new cases reported were 2,073, 37 per cent higher than Tuesday. The test positivity rate (TPR) rose to 11.64 per cent. The cases crossed the 2,000 mark for the first time in 71 days since February 4 when there were 2,272 cases.

The number of cases has stayed above the mark of 1,000 for a week now. There were 1,506 fresh covid cases on Tuesday and the test positivity rate was 10.63 per cent. On Monday two fatalities and 822 new cases were reported. The TPR was 11.41 per cent.

The hospitalisation figure also went up to 341 on Tuesday. Most of them are elderly or comorbid. In the last few days there were six to seven admissions a day. There were 50 deaths recorded in July, 50 in June and 35 in May.

New covid cases in India were 17,135 and the deaths 47 in the past 24 hours, as per Union Health Ministry data of August 3. The previous day it was 13,734 cases and 34 deaths. There were five deaths reported from Maharashtra and Rajasthan too, after Delhi, on Wednesday.

The active cases in the country now stands at 1,37,057 which comprise 0.32 per cent of the total infections. The daily positivity rate stands at 3.69 per cent while the weekly positivity rate is 4.67 per cent.

The recovery rate was 98.49 per cent and the total recoveries stood at 4,34,03,610. There over 4,64,919 covid tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

A total of 23,49,651 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours, taking India's vaccination coverage to 2,04,84,30,732.

Meanwhile, a Government panel on covid immunisation has recommended allowing Biological E's Corbevax as a precaution dose for adults fully vaccinated with either Covishield or Covaxin, official sources said on Tuesday.

As the cases rose, the Delhi High Court decided to work in the hybrid mode. Delhi Chief Justice Satish Chander Sharma said, "Keeping in view the rise in covid-19 infections in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, and to reduce the footfall in the court premises, Delhi High Court will continue to hold court proceedings via hybrid mode".
