FARIDABAD, Aug 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Amrita hospital in Faridabad on Wednesday. India's largest, 2,600-bedded state-of-the-art hospital promoted by Mata Amritananda Mayi mutt (MAM), it will have Delhi National Capital Region as its catchment area.

Equipped with the latest technology, the hospital has a massive infrastructure in a sprawling 130-acre eco-friendly campus, which was completed in just six years' time. In addition to the best-in class healthcare facilities, the complex also houses a seven-storey medical research block to facilitate global collaboration in scientific pursuits.

With 81 super-speciality medical and surgical departments, the hospital, equipped with cutting-edge technology, has been designed to serve the poor and middle class sections with the latest in medicare. There are 64 fully networked modular operation theatres and 534 critical-care beds that are digitally monitored round-the-clock. A comprehensive transplant programme will be among the distinctive features of the hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, Modi said, Governments and other agencies must come forward to transform the health and education sectors on a mission mode.

MAM founder and spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, fondly known as Amma, exhorted the medical fraternity to be compassionate in order to provide inclusive healthcare.

Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar were also present on the occasion.

Located in Faridabad's Sector 88, Haryana, along the Delhi-Mathura road, Amrita hospital is one of the country’s largest green-building healthcare projects and maintains a low carbon footprint and zero wastewater discharge. It plans to be solar-powered shortly.

Amrita medical institutions of MAM have provided free treatment to 5.1 million patients and subsidised care to another 3,00,000 patients involving a total of Rs 764 cr in charitable medical care.
