Another SpiceJet reports air turnback: Autopilot glitch in Delhi-Nashik flight
SpiceJet B737 aircraft VT-SLP, operating flight SG-8363 from Delhi to Nashik, had an air turnback due to an autopilot snag on Thursday. The aircraft had a safe landing at the Delhi IGI airport. There has been a series of air incidents involving Spicejet planes. On Wednesday the company posted a quarterly loss of Rs 789 crore and the airlines' Chief Financial Officer Sanjeev Taneja resigned. However, Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh is hopeful that the company will turn around as there is a revival of "strong travel demand" that will be lasting. No giving up!

NEW DELHI, Sept 2: A Nashik-bound Spicejet flight returned mid-way to IGI airport in Delhi on Thursday morning after it developed a glitch in the autopilot. It landed safely.

SpiceJet B737 aircraft VT-SLP, operating flight SG-8363 (Delhi-Nashik), had an air turnback due to an autopilot snag, a DGCA official said.

"The aircraft made a normal landing at Delhi and passengers disembarked normally," Spicejet said in a statement.

Airlines are facing acute financial problems as a result of the impact of lockdowns during the covid pandemic which disrupted travel business for over two years and the fuel price rise due to the ongoing Ukrainian war.

Because of frequent incidents threatening a smooth and safe air travel, in July the DGCA had directed Spicejet to slash operations by half in terms of number of flights, for the summer schedule. In the previous months Spicejet had faced about a dozen air incidents. Others too had had their share.

The DGCA had issued show-cause notices to the airline over several flight safety incidents and also removed two pilots and other technical staff from the roster earlier.

Losses mount, shares fall, CFO Taneja quits

Meanwhile, the shares of SpiceJet Ltd fell 14.7 per cent after the budget airline announced that its net loss for three months ending June had gone up to Rs 789 crore.

Following the announcement of the losses, the airlines' Chief Financial Officer (CFO ) Sanjeev Taneja resigned on Wednesday.

The airline's managing director Ajay Singh said despite "the complex operating environment and highest ever input costs", SpiceJet had been fully operating and would get investments of $200 million soon.

"As we move ahead we are encouraged with the strong travel demand and our focus for the next year would be to induct more fuel efficient Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft and concentrate on our regional and international routes," he said.
