MUMBAI, Oct 8: Twelve people were killed in a road accident in Nashik when
a luxury bus rammed into a truck and caught fire in the wee hours of Saturday
when most passengers were asleep.
The bus was coming from Yavatmal to Mumbai when it collided with the truck
on Aurangabad road in Nashik. Going to Pune from Nashik, the truck was transporting
diesel. The diesel tank exploded and caught fire. The private bus, a 'sleeper'
coach, was carrying more than 30 passengers. Thirty eight people were injured
and hospitalised.
Ganesh Landge, a passenger who boarded bus from Washim told reporters, "The
bus caught fire suddenly after it hit something. Some of us escaped from the
window."
The District Colletor, Municipal Commissioner and the Police Commissioner are
were coordinating rescue operations.
An ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each
of the deceased and the injured would be given Rs 50,000, the PMO tweeted. The
Maharashtra Government also announced relief of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of
kin of those who died in the accident.
