GREATER NOIDA, Oct 16: The body of Yashaswi Raj, 22, a second year student
of BSc in Agriculture at Galgotias University in Greater Noida, who had been
reported missing since October 12, was found in a drain close to the university
gate on Saturday afternoon.
Police said there were no visible marks of any wounds on the body, which has
been sent for post-mortem examination. His wristwatch and wallet are also intact.
Yashaswi Raj’s local guardian and aunt, Anita Kumari, a resident of New Ashok
Nagar in Delhi, had filed a missing person’s complaint on October 13. He had
been missing since last Wednesday. Yashaswi Raj hailed from Patna.
According to reports, Yashaswi Raj spoke to his mother at around 7:25 pm on
Wednesday and told her he had gone to Dankaur market with his friends and that
his phone had no charge and would call after reaching the hostel. On Thursday
morning also when the phone was found switched off his relatives visited the
hostel to find out what happened. They were told he had not returned. A complaint
was filed at the Dankaur police station.
According to sources, Yashaswi Raj and three of his friends had left the
Galgotias University hostel at 4 pm and none of them had returned at the time of
the 7 pm roll call. A CCTV footage showed Yashaswi Raj coming out of a restaurant/bar and after an autorickshaw refused to take him following some dispute he was seen walking alone outside the market at 10 pm. Around this time, the other three, who had stayed back at the restaurant, returned to the hostel.
The police have questioned the autorickshaw driver as well as the other three
students who had accompanied him to the market but no clue has emerged. Yashaswi
Raj's relatives allege that following a quarrel among some students and Yashaswi
Raj he was murdered.
Meanwhile, the police reportedly told a Channel that five students are involved
in the murder of Yashaswi Raj following a fight.
