PITTSBURG (Pennsylvania), Oct 17: A mass shooting in Pittsburgh killed three
people on Saturday night.
The incident took place at "multiple scenes" in busy North Side intersection
of the city at 10 pm local time, the police said. One woman died on the spot
and another woman and a man succumbed to bullet wounds in the Allegheny General
Hospital. The two women were identified as Jacquelyn Mehalic, 33, and Betty
Averytt, 59. The identity of the man remains unknown. Another man who was injured
is in stable condition in the hospital.
One of the victims was found in a bus shelter and another in a park. The police
do not have any more details.
No arrests were immediately announced. There was no immediate word on the number
of shooters or the number of shots fired.
There was yet another shooting on Sunday morning in the city’s South Side neighbourhood,
critically injuring one person.
There have been 56 homicides in Pittsburgh in 2022, 49 homicides in 2020 and
51 last year. Police this year responded to more than 1,900 incidents where
shots were fired. Police and the residents say this is one of the most dangerous
cities. Crime has been a neighborhood problem for years.
One shot in East Mount Airy
Meanwhile, 63-year-old Reginald Dixon was found with multiple gunshot wounds
to the head as he lay on the dining room floor of the East Mount Airy residence
and he was pronounced dead on scene, on Thursday. Police say no weapons were
recovered and no arrests were made.
