NEW DELHI, Dec 2: Your face is now your ID, your domestic boarding pass at
the airport.
Domestic passengers can now seamlessly fly out of Delhi's IGI Airport, Bengaluru's
Kempegowda International Airport and Varanasi's Lal Bahadur Shastri International
Airport by registering on DigiYatra app that enables contactless, paperless
travel through the biometric facial recognition technology.
The system came into being on Thursday, December 1. It facilitates quick entry
and security check as it will automate airport entry, security check and boarding
gate. No identification or boarding pass has to be shown by the passengers.
Launching the first phase of the new DigiYatra facility for Delhi, Bengaluru
and Varanasi airports from the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in
the national Capital, Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said the data shared
will be stored in a decentralised manner.
“We have many examples across the globe. In Dubai, the processing time has
come down by almost 40% and the adoption rate of FRT has gone up. Similarly
at Atlanta airport, the passenger time has come down by almost nine percent
per flight which is a huge advantage. At Narita too, it has reduced by almost
two-thirds from what it used to be,” he said.
A passenger has to register his details on the DigiYatra app with Aadhaar validation.
In Delhi the facility is available only at T3 terminal. Air India, Air Asia
India, Vistara and IndiGo passengers can avail of the facility.
Four more airports will come under the new check-in by March next. They are
Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune and Vijayawada.
"Experience the Future of Air Travel with DigiYatra an initiative by MoCA and
enjoy quick airport entry and Pre-Security Check with only your face as your
Boarding Pass", the Ministry of Civil Aviation tweeted.
Meanwhile, Scindia also inaugurated the new air route between Pune-Singapore.
This route will connect Pune, the hub of higher education, with Singapore, the
land of possibilities and open new doors for economic development in both the
regions, Scindia said.
