RICHMOND (Virginia), Dec 2: A survivor Donya Prioleau of the Walmart mass shooting
in Virginia on November 22, in which seven people were killed and four injured,
has sued the company for $ 50 m in a lawsuit. She has been an employee with
Walmart for over a year.
The lawsuit said the victim had complained about the suspect employee's behaviour
months before the mass shooting at the store in Chesapeake but the company continued
to keep him on the rolls. The suspect had disturbing interactions with staff,
the written complaint of September 10 had stated. The lawsuit claimed that he
also had "violent propensities."
According to the lawsuit, the gunman had told store employees that he would
retaliate and "people will remember my name" in case he was ever sacked.
The lawsuit said, Prioleau's mother had come to the store following the suspect's
abuse of her daughter and told store manager Alysia Mixon about it, that she
was concerned about her daughter's safety, but Mixon told her "there was nothing
that could be done about Mr. Bing because he was liked by the management."
The victim now suffers, among other things, sleeplessness, flashbacks, severe
anxiety and nightmares, according to the lawsuit.
Andre Bing, a supervisor at Walmart since 2010, opened fire on a staff break
room on November 22, killing seven people and injuring several others. Prioleau
was in the room. The suspect died on the scene from a suspected self-inflicted
gunshot wound, according to the police.
Colorado shootings
DENVER: Following the Colorado killings, the lawmakers have stressed the urgency
to speed up legislation to ban assault weapon and bring in age restrictions
on the purchase of firearms.
A shooter, wearing body armour, opened fire at an LGBT nightclub, Club Q, in
Colorado Springs, killing five and injuring 25 on November 19.
A US Navy member, who was injured while disarming the shooter, said he simply
‘wanted to save the family’ he found.
After the shootings at Club Q and the Walmart three days later, President Joe
Biden has called on Congress to pass the legislation introduced last year to
ban assault weapons nationally.
