KABUL, Dec 6: A group of women were flogged last Friday in an unidentified
Afghan province for violating the Taliban rule that women should not go alone
for shopping without male guardians, according to posts on the Twitter.
The Taliban’s law prohibits women from entering shops without a male escort.
A two-minute long video clip was posted on Twitter reportedly from Afghanistan’s
Takhar province on the latest punishment. Women are seen flogged mercilessly.
“Women in Afghanistan are going through hell under Taliban rule, we should not
turn a blind eye,” Shabnam Nazimi wrote alongside the video.
Last Wednesday, an Afghan court ordered three women and 11 men to be publicly
flogged on charge of theft and immorality, AFP reported.
Supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada had ordered judges last month to fully
enforce the Islamic laws on punishments such as public execution, flogging,
stoning and amputation for thieves.
Social media is replete with such videos despite the fact that the Taliban
when it took over the reins last year had pledged not to implement the barbarian
laws on brutal punishments and would adopt a modern system of judicial administration.
Taliban during its earlier rule that ended in 2001 was strictly enforcing the
harsh laws, flogging and executing law-breakers at the national stadium.
