NEW DELHI, Dec 11: Indigo airline will launch its largest station at Mopa airport,
the new upcoming airport in Goa. Once Goa's second international airport becomes
operational on January 5, Indigo will start flights to eight cities from the
new airport in the north of the State. There will be 168 weekly flights, to
and fro.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to inaugurate the new airport on
Sunday.
Indigo, at the same time, will continue with its current operations from the
present Dabolim airport, the airline said last week.
Because of a concentration of tourist destinations North Goa attracts a large
number of domestic and international travellers.
The airline said it is introducing the new flights from the new airport to
cater to the increasing demand and will improve direct connectivity to North
Goa.
Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo said, “We are very excited
to announce our largest ever new station launch with new direct connections
from the New Goa International Airport in Mopa, North Goa. It’s momentous for
us at IndiGo to have such massive opening and it speaks of our ambition and
ability to provide connectivity to our customers and the nation in the best
possible way."
Meanwhile, the airline launched a digital e-logbook for its pilots, a first
in the Indian aviation sector. It will facilitate the transfer of pilots' flight
data directly to the aviation regulator, Directorate General of Civil Aviation
(DGCA).
