RANCHI, Feb 1: Ten women and three children were among 14 people killed in
a fire that broke out in a multistorey residential building in Jharkhand's Dhanbad
on Tuesday evening. Fourteen people have been hospitalised with burn injuries.
A wedding function was going on on one of the floors. An unconfirmed report
said the fire started from an oil lamp. The blaze was at Aashirwad Towers in
Jodaphatak in the old city area in the evening. The apartment has 100 flats.
The fire started in the second floor of the 10-storey building late in the
evening and the residents were trapped, initial reports said.
The incident follows another fire mishap in Dhanbad four days ago in which
a doctor couple were killed when the hospital in which they were working caught
fire. Three others also died in the fire in the private Hazra hospital. A short
circuit is said to have caused the fire. Nine people were rescued. The fire
engulfed the first floor. The patients there were sleeping.
