KYIV (Ukraine), Feb 27: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has predicted
that Russian President Vladimir Putin will be killed by his own men in his inner
circle for the senseless invasion of Ukraine that wreaked heavy military and
civilian casualties and devastation in Russia. It is only a matter of time he
is eliminated by his own men, Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian President made the remarks in a documentary, “Year”, by journalist
Dmytro Komarov. It was released on Friday (February 24) to mark a year since
the invasion began.
“There will certainly be a moment when the fragility of Putin’s regime is felt
in Russia. Then carnivores will eat the carnivore. It is very important, and
they will need a reason to justify this. They will recall the words of Komarov,
of Zelensky…They will remember. They will find a reason to kill the killer.
Will it work? Yes. When? I don’t know,” Zelensky said, according to Ukrainska
Pravda.
As the toll is mounting every day, resentment over Putin's policy is growing
in Russia. A Russian billionaire who has connections with top officials told
the Washington Post some time ago that “There is huge frustration among the
people around him. He clearly doesn’t know what to do.”
Videos from the battlefront showed Russian soldiers being sacrificed for Putin's
arrogance bordering madness.
Apart from the military and civilian losses, the western sanctions are also
crippling the Russian economy and it is doubtful how long Putin will be able
to hold on. The sanctions involve more than 30 countries representing more than
half of the world’s economy.
In a social media message on Sunday, Zelensky vowed to keep fighting. “This
is our land. Our people. Our history. We will return the Ukrainian flag to every
corner of Ukraine.” Retaking Crimean peninsula will mark the end of the war,
he said.
Medvedev sees Apocalypse!
Meanwhile, Russia's former President Dmitry Medvedev has said Western arms
supplies to Kyiv threaten a global nuclear catastrophe, daily Izvestia reported
on Monday. Medvedev is deputy chairman of Putin's security council.
Putin himself had termed last week Moscow's confrontation with the West as
an existential battle for the survival of Russia.
Medvedev said, “Of course, the pumping in of weapons can continue .... and
prevent any possibility of reviving negotiations. Our enemies are doing just
that, not wanting to understand that their goals will certainly lead to a total
fiasco. Loss for everyone. A collapse, Apocalypse. Where you forget for centuries
about your former life, until the rubble ceases to emit radiation."
The remarks follow US President Joe Biden's surprise visit to Ukraine last
Monday (February 20) where he said, ''Putin's war of conquest is failing.''
The US will back Ukraine in its fight against Russia for "as long as it takes",
Biden said, announcing an additional half a billion dollars in US assistance.
On a surprise visit on Monday, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced
in Kyiv the first transfer of $1.25 billion out of a promised $9.9 billion in
US aid to be provided over the first three quarters of 2023.
