The Railway cancelled some long-distance trains while others were diverted due to waterlogging on railway tracks. Local trains did not run on several routes. All Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Government and private schools and colleges in the city were shut for the entire day.

MUMBAI, July 8: Flights were cancelled, local train services disrupted, roads submergd and schools closed in Mumbai as heavy rain flooded the city and other parts of Maharashtra on Monday. The city recorded over 200 mm of rainfall at various places in six hours early in the morning.

More than 50 flights were cancelled due to the downpour since morning. Twenty-seven flights bound for Mumbai were diverted to other cities. Air India offered full refunds or a one-time complimentary rescheduling for bookings confirmed for travel on July 8.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde told reporters, "Trains on the Central and Harbour lines have resumed. Disaster management authorities, Army, Navy and Air Force are on alert." The Legislative Assembly was adjourned for the day.

All Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Government and private schools and colleges in Mumbai were shut for the entire day.

The Central Railway cancelled some trains while others were diverted due to waterlogging on railway tracks. On the main line, there was waterlogging around Kurla Bhandup. From Wadala Road to Mankhurd no train service was available. Chunabhatti was heavily flooded.

The Railway said, “The services on Harbour Line were running normally till 9:30 am. After 9:30 am, due to the water of Mithi river at Chunabhatti Station of Harbour Line and due to heavy rains, a lot of water has accumulated on the tracks. " Local services at Chunabhatti Station were disrupted. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Panvel are not affected. Harbour line services PNVL-MNKD-PNVL and Goregaon-VDLR-Goregaon have resumed in the afternoon. Train nos. 11009, 12123, 11008 and 12128 to and from Mumbai-Pune were cancelled.

Most of the local trains in the suburban section were also affected.

Mumbai residents have been advised to stay at home and check for the latest updates on local train services running on harbour and main line as the heavy rains continued. “Mumbaikar are requested not believe in any rumours. Also to step out of the house only if it is necessary. In case of an emergency call 1916 for immediate assistance," the BMC said.

The Powai lake began overflowing since morning.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall will continue for three more days in Maharashtra. It issued yellow alert for Tuesday in Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon Nasik, Ahmednagar and other districts.

He was also accused of inaugurating an incomplete Ram temple in Ayodhya in January which started leaking in the first downpour last weekend.

It is also puzzling why every few years airport buildings are demolished in Delhi and new plans are made for new constructions and nobody seems to take notice!
