‘Operation Clog the Toilet’: A '4chan' campaign against Indian H-1B visa workers
The fringe elements of the internet subculture on the controversial imageboard '4chan' blocked air tickets from India to the US en masse to prevent the Indian visa-holders from buying any to return to the US before the 'mistaken' deadline of Trump's proclamation. The prices also shot up to a prohibitive $6,000 for whatever seats available because of airlines' yield management technique of dynamic pricing—although they don't themselves lock tickets to run an undercover Corporate racket. Panic struck the Indians at multi levels.
NEW DELHI, Sept 29: Users on open social platform '4chan' launched an ‘Operation
Clog the Toilet’ campaign by block-booking plane seats causing panic among Indian
H-1B visa-holders after President Donald Trump’s $100,000 fee announcement,
it has come to light.
The campaign to prevent Indian H-1B visa holders on leave from re-entering
the US before the mistaken deadline effectively blocked tickets and in its course
pushed the prices phenomenally high as the Western airlines practice the strategy
of yield management applying dynamic pricing system.
The misinterpretation of the presidential proclamation led to Indians racing
to airports to return to the US before the deadline set for the new rule came
into effect—September 21.
The idiotic response of tech giants like Microsoft added credence to the rumour
that the order will apply to all H-1B visa holders. Amazon, Google, Meta, JP
Morgan and other major companies too reportedly asked their employees to hurry
up and land in the US positively before the deadline. Microsoft's notorious
email to its employees added fuel to the fire.
In fact, even when the White House later clarified that the order—it reads
well and clear for anyone—is strictly for new applicants and nothing to do with
the existing visas, their travel or renewals, Indians then out of the US were
scared of the reckless animal-like behaviour of the ICE and other officials
at US airports who might act without reason—like a matching Microsoft—as seen
in visuals in the media in the recent past. An additional prompt for quick return.
This confusion provided an opportunity to the anti-Indian, rightist White nationalist
fringe elements in the US to launch the ‘Operation Clog the Toilet’ campaign—users
coming together to book up plane seats without actually completing the purchase
to spread further chaos and push up the ticket price beyond the capacity of
an employee.
The post, accompanied by an AI image of a toilet overflowing with boarding
passes, instructed followers to use Google Flights to look up common flights
from India to the United States, choose a seat and begin the checkout process
without completing it to initiate a 15-minute hold on the seat, preventing real
customers from purchasing it. “I got 100 seats locked,” one user subsequently
claimed, relishing the turmoil being faced by India’s airlines, wrote Independent.
There are currently around 700,000 H-1B visa holders in the country and another
half a million or so dependents, according to sources.
What is 'Operation Clog the Toilet': It’s a real-world disruption born
from internet trolling on the controversial imageboard 4chan, and it matters.
Their goal was to block Indian H-1B visa holders from booking flights back to
the US. By exploiting airline ticketing systems—specifically the 15-minute seat-hold
feature during checkout—trolls opened multiple tabs on popular India–US flight
routes, initiated bookings, and deliberately left them incomplete. This temporarily
locked seats, froze availability, and also drove up prices to prohibitive levels,
with some fares reportedly spiking to nearly $6,000. So it had a double effect.
It’s both a digital prank and a form of real-world sabotage. While some users
framed it as “patriotic resistance,” others condemned it as racist trolling
targeting Indian tech workers.
It also inadvertently exposed vulnerabilities in airline booking systems. Airlines
don’t use this tactic to kick up prices but they do employ dynamic pricing algorithms.
These systems show fares based on demand, search volume and seat availability.
If bots or users artificially inflate demand—like in this case—prices can spike.
Airlines themselves wouldn’t deliberately hold seats to hike prices, but their

The CCTV footage and the video circulating on social media do not indicate any serious abnormalities in takeoff or descent, it has been confirmed. The disaster is becoming curiouser and curiouser. The flight path was not curvy. And the aircraft maintained a steady, gliding descent with its nose straight and the wings perfectly level. The pilot's distress call does not specify what prevented lift and climb-out. Here are some expert opinions. The sole purpose is to raise travellers' awareness about air travel.
Many of the victims were charred beyond recognition, making identification difficult. Three hundred nineteen body parts have been sent for DNA matching with relatives to determine the identities.

PROGNOSIS: It looks a Real New Trump is emerging - courageous, balanced, powerful and disinterested. Determined to save his country from the cliff, he has done quite a few draconian things that will reduce the burden of debts of the Federal entity, like the golden handshake, stopping senseless funding, pulling out of a worthless WHO. Shutting the Education Department is another. On the other hand, running it is also not the Centre's job either (We will convincingly elaborate it in the next chapter).
In India the scene is just the opposite. Centralisation is the core agenda and identity of the ruling dispensation without which it has no existence, or in other words, it exists for that set of schemes only. A realisation of this never dawned upon any Opposition party in 2014 or any time thereafter, what to talk of being able to see it coming 70 years ago! THE AMERICAN CONUNDRUM: Political venom has migrated to top echelons in the US. It was reported last year NASA has become politicised, vitiated. But NASA refuted the charge. How Boeing developed a glitch but its unmanned return was smooth. When Suni-Wilmore were stranded last June, why the return was set for February? Because that comes only after January 20! SpaceX called the shots, for itself and for Trump. Then the mission was manipulated for March for a better bargain! In between, what made Elon Musk 'predict' during campaign if Kamala Harris wins he would be in jail. In politics, it is said, "the only rule is there are no rules." Difficult times for Americans too.
The terminations are part of a large-scale exercise going on all across Fed departments and organisations to reduce wasteful Government expenditure as decided by a Trump in a mess gone berserk, and improve administrative efficiency following the whims of billionaire and his associate Elon MusK and his DOGE. It has not been shared how terminations are going to raise the efficiency bar! It looks like Trump has stolen some of the prescriptions meant for India. But the American problems are quite different.

ANALYSIS: "The standard operating procedure for deportations by aircraft used by ICE that is effective from 2012 provides for the use of restraints," says the Government. That means, it is taken for granted the US will set the standard for deportations. OPINION: A nutty 'new' Trump must know checking illegal immigration is his job and not theirs. And 'penalty' tariff is not a solution. However, Trump talking about "major threat" from "illegal aliens" (illegal immigration) is about what he believes, right or wrong, and to that extent he is genuine and honest; it is certainly not a pretension to prop up his political relevance. Bullies are always true to themselves. Look at India's crooked politicians shouting day in, day out to prove they are more patriotic, and to whip up public sentiments for them to ride on!
