May 13, 2012 | Bajrang Dal activists protest in Jammu over reduced duration of Amarnath Yatra |
Jammu: Bajrang Dal activists staged a protest here on Sunday over the duration of the annual
Amarnath Yatra. Activists raised slogans against the administration of the Amarnath
Shrine Board, which organises the pilgrimage annually. Bajrang Dal activist, Nand
Kishore said they would like to supervise the arrangements to provide the best
facilities to pilgrims. " We will the see the arrangements for pilgrims and would
see the condition of snow on the way to the shrine. One hundred activists of Bajrang
Dal will go to Baltal as part of the campaign for pilgrims organised by the Vishwa
Hindu Parishad so that the pilgrimage on June 04 can take place smoothly," Kishore
said. The protestors expressed lament over the Shrine Board’s decision to reduce
the duration of the pilgrimage to 39 days, and warned that any “conspiracy” against
the faith would not be accepted. "In 2010, the duration of the pilgrimage was
fixed at two months. In 2011, it was reduced to 45 days, and this year, it has
been reduced to 39 days. We will not tolerate any conspiracy against our faith,"
said Kishore. The pilgrimage takes place between July and August.
