West taking to Yoga, Ayurveda: Ramadoss

     New Delhi: The West is fast adopting the Yoga and Ayurveda, the country's traditional medicinal system, and giving up Alopathy, Union Health Minister A. Ramdoss said today while inaugurating the "Arogya-2004", a six-day comprehensive health fair. The fair focuses on Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturoparthy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathic systems of medicines. "The current popularity of traditional Indian Systems, particularly Ayurveda and Yoga, has crossed the territorial barriers and there is ample demand generated in foreign countries. The use of Yoga exercises and meditation techniques is spreading very fast in USA and European countries. We have to harness this situation with strategic approach and planning," said, Ramdoss, while inaugurating the fair. The fair is not all about medicines. There is whole range of beauty products, health foods like herbal tea, drinks, and even biscuits. Also, one can avail free consultations by the specialists. Live Yoga demonstrations with on-the-spot guidance are also part of the show. Visitors too are finding the fair quite useful even as on display and for sale are various herbs, roots, herbal and Ayurvedic medicines for Diabetes, cancer, heart problems, leprosy, paralysis, and arthritis. "I am enjoying the exhibition and getting all the information which is otherwise not available. This is a great platform to get lot of information on natural therapies," said Neera, a visitor. Radha Singh, another visitor, said: "It is great. They have got lot of new avenues open, new drugs that have come up. It's great to see what is happening." Several books and informative material are also on display. Sale of medicinal plants and know-how on cultivation of medicinal plants are the added feature of the fair. Over the next six days, about five lakh people are expected to visit the unique fair.
