Assam - The Lure of the Wild ASSAM, the heart of north-east India, has vast expanses of forest, hills, undulating plains and rivers. The people are simple by nature. Exclusive tribal cultures co-exist. Brahmaputra, one of the four largest rivers in the world, flows through the state. Assam has four main seasons: summer, monsoon, winter and spring. Though moderate climate prevails throughout the year, the best period to visit the state is October to April. The most important and well-known tourist spots are Capital Guwahati, Kaziranga National Park, Manas National Park, Majuli river island and Sualkuchi where Assam silk is made. One should'nt miss Kaziranga and Majuli. Guwahati, the Capital GUWAHATI is the gateway to Assam and the north-eastern region.
The famous Kamakhya temple is located on the outskirts. Ambubashi is a famous festival celebrated here symbolising fertility (Click here for more). Besides, Bhubaneswari and several other temples are the tourist attractions here.
