IT professionals taking to Ayurvedic therapies

Bangalore: Ayurveda system of medicine has been popular in India for treating physical and mental ailment. Now more and more professionals from Bangalore, the major information and technology hub of the country, are resorting to Ayurvedic therapies to cool down their daily stress. "A lot of IT professionals are coming here for stress management regularly. To get relief from the stressful five days of excessive workload they come here and attend a week of the rejuvenating programme, "Jayeraman, an ayurvedic practitioner in Whitefield locality of Bangalore. "This is the only centre in India where we have a complete stress management programme, where we act from the physical levels and at times even on the mental levels," says Jayeraman, an ayurvedic practitioner in Whitefield locality of Bangalore. A team of Ayurvedic medics headed by Dr Jayeraman at "Ayurved Gram"( literally meaning the 'abode of life sciences) put the stressed visitors through steps that treat health as a holistic state of mental and physical well-being, which is a way beyond the annual physical or popping a daily multi-vitamin.

The individuals coming here undergo massages, therapies, medicine regimen and their favourite-- meditation and yoga course. They learn about the methods of the body basics like breathing right, eating right and detoxification. These professionals come trundling to the centres and swear by the therapeutic gains. "It is helpful to visit the Ayurvedic therapy centre in a lot of ways. As it feels a good break from the daily humbug routine. It helps you to have mental and physical relaxation. Like in this Yoga class, we learnt how to keep our "Naadi shuddhi" (or good blood flow) and keep your breath and stress levels under control. I do not know how fast that works but till now it has been a great experience and I hope to be back for more," says Gunjan, an Information Technology professional with INFOSYS technologies. Another one is Hemanth Acharya, a Chief Executive Officer, who visits the refuge once every month and recounts how an acute back problem compounded by bad roads and an incompatible car design plagued him, before he found relief here. Acharya faced a battery of tests and treatments but his orthopaedic doctor couldn't manage beyond a certain point and that brought him to the Ayurvedic centre. "I remember the yoga master who said that if I did yoga, I could travel at any road in the world and drive any car, and there would be no problem. That was exactly what happened. I do not have a back problem, though, I drive on the same roads. The roads may have become a little worse, but my life has improved, my health has definitely improved," said Hemant.
