Go To Index Page Pune to host World Ayurveda Congress New
Delhi: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss
will inaugurate the Second World Ayurveda Congress and Expo 2006 at
Pune University on November 5. This is for the first time that over
3000 delegates from more than 50 countries, as well as policy makers,
industrial experts, academic leaders and researchers are coming together
to discuss the challenges and opportunities for traditional science.
The theme of the eight-day congress is 'Ayurveda For The Future' which
is being jointly orgainsed by the University of Pune, AYUSH and Vijnan
Bharati. The Congress will have three plenary sessions and 22 parallel
sessions, discussing various aspects related to Ayurveda, with special
focus on education, research, industry and conservation. Subjects that
will be covered in the Congress would range from the fundamental principles
of Ayurveda to frontier areas in Ayurveda research like the standardisation
of drugs, their patenting and IPR, treatment for different diseases,
autoimmune disorders and use of biotechnology. The Home Pavilion of
the Exhibition will highlight the development of Ayurveda from the Stone
Age till date. More than 150 stalls will be manned by leading Ayurveda
manufacturers and Ayurveda Colleges. The exhibitor profile will include
service institutions, academic institutions, R and D centres, nutraceutical
manufacturers and marketing firms, medicinal plant cultivators and dealers,
exporters, ayurvedic treatment centres, equipment suppliers, Ayurveda
industries and publishers. The experts will attend to common problems
such as pimples, hair loss, diabetes, asthma, heart disease and hypertension.
Around a lakh people will get a chance for a check up during the period.
Also two workshops have been planned on `panchakarma' and on developing
methods and skills for writing scientific publications for researchers.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Narendra Jadhav, Member of Parliament Suresh Kalmadi,
Suresh Prabhu and other dignitaries will be present during the inaugural
session. In November 2002, first World Ayurveda Congress was organised
in Kochi and it had attracted delegates from over 28 countries and lakhs
of visitors.
