Herbal rice to fight diabetes
by ER Gopinath
Narayanvasalam
(Tamil Nadu): Rice is disallowed by allopathic
doctors. Thanks to an Ayurvedic researcher, diabetic
patients can now enjoy a plate full of rice in their
diet. The special herbal rice can reduce sugar levels
in the body. "DIARICE", a herbal variety of rice,
which is claimed to have medicinal properties beneficial
for diabetics, has been developed by S Moorthy Satyamraju,
a resident of Tamil Nadu's Erode District. It took
Satyamraju nearly 10 years to develop "DIARICE" after
treating Ponni, a variety of rice with 11 anti-diabetic
herbs. It is claimed that the regular consumption
of this herbal rice brings down the sugar levels progressively.
"We tried this herbal rice on people (5-80 age group)
affected with diabetes. The response and result has
been very good. By consuming this herbal rice for
a minimum five days, the required glucose to the body
gets increased and the sugar level is also maintained
to normal levels. This particular herbal rice has
been tested and certified by the Indian Institute
of Ayurvedic Science," said Satyamraju. already, the
rice has been tested on over a thousand diabetics.
"DIARICE" is not only beneficial for health but also
retains the natural goodness and flavour of rice.
Satyamraju plans to export the herbal rice, which
is presently available at rupees 60 per kilogram in
the local market. The researcher says that "DIARICE"has
been certified by the National Institute of Vedic
Science, a government recognized ayurvedic institute.
Diabetes patients who have consumed "DIARICE" say
their sugar levels has maintained at constant levels.
Diabetes commonly dubbed as the silent killer is one
of the leading causes of deaths worldwide. "When I
was thinking of what to do with my diabetes, somebody
suggested this herbal rice, which I was told, could
control my sugar level almost to a point where I could
stop taking my pills. Once I started eating this rice,
my sugar level has come under control," said Jayalakshmi,
a diabetic patient. India alone accounts for 35 million
people with diabetes and it is estimated that by the
year 2025 it will reach 73.5 million as a result of
longer life expectancy, sedentary lifestyle and changing
dietary patterns. More than 194 million people worldwide
are affected with diabetes and it is expected to reach
333 million by the year 2025.
