Ramdev defends his claim to cure
AIDS
Bhubaneswar
(Orissa): Yoga guru Ramdev has claimed that he
can cure cancer and hepatitis with medicines and yoga.
"Instead of creating a controversy, what the Government
should have done is to have appreciated my work in
curing even one cancer patient. It would have been
a great achievement in fighting cancer. But I have
cured hundreds of cancer patients and it would have
been so good if the government would have come to
me and kept a proposal asking me to help them in this
fight against cancer. I have also cured hepatitis,"
said Ramdev. However, Ramdev said he had never told
anyone to stop taking medicines, but stuck to his
claim that his therapy can cure the worst of the diseases.
"Those whose CD count was 25 or even 19, where its
normal range is about 500, I have increased their
CD count to 350, 400 or even as high as 500. This
is the truth. I am talking about the achievement in
fighting AIDS," Ramdev added. Health Minister Anbumani
Ramadoss had earlier rubbished Ramdev's claims that
he could cure AIDS, saying while he supported the
practice of yoga, unscientific claims should not be
propagated by him. He had also said that he would
push for an amendment to the 'Drugs and Magic Remedies
Act' of 1954 which prohibits advertisement of certain
drugs and magical remedies for cure of particular
diseases. Ramdev has been at the centre of a controversy,
with activists accusing him of using dubious substances
for preparing his medicines. Many also accuse Ramdevof
deluding his followers into believing that they will
be cured of their illnesses with yoga.
