Cricket-betting racket busted in Faridabad Faridabad:
The Haryana Police have busted a gang of punters and alleged match-fixers
in Faridabad who were laying bets on the ongoing Ashes series in Australia.
Acting on a tip-off, police raided a posh residence here on late Thursday
night and arrested twelve people who were engaged in betting on the Australia-England
Test series. Police also recovered dozens of mobile phones and Indian
currency. "The police special staff received information that a person
named 'Master' was operating an illegal betting racket. They were also
involved in match fixing in the city. Acting on the information, a raiding
party raided the house and found 12 persons who were engaged in betting,"
said Mahendra Singh Sheron, Senior Superintendent of Police in Faridabad.
"We also recovered Rs 2.15 lakh (4808 dollars) and 53 mobile phones. Our
officers are investigating (the matter) and the further action will be
taken soon," Sheron added. Police said that the gang was operating in
the area for a long time and placed bets with Indian and foreign clients
going into thousands of dollars. |
