Jagraon police rescue 16 girls from Goan hotel Jagraon
(Punjab): Around 16 girls have been rescued from a hotel in Goa, and
a case has been registered against their kidnappers with the Jagraon Police.
According to the complaint lodged with the police, a man called Amarjeet
Singh introduced himself as an Army lieutenant to the girls and their
families. He then lured the girls with promises of employment as nurses
in the Army.He took 24 girls to Goa. Most of these girls belonged to the
villages of Kamalpura and Madheke in Ludhiana and Moga Districts respectively.
The girls were locked in a room in a hotel in Goa. Sixteen of the 24 were
rescued by their parents with the help of the Lok Bhalai Party. "Amarjeet
Singh who posed himself as a Lieutenant in the Army lured girls of Kamalpura
and other nearby villages for nursing in the Army in Goa. In September,
around 24 girls were taken to Goa and kept in a hotel. Then Amarjeet Singh
took them to Lucknow from where they were brought again to Goa. The girls
were locked inside a room in the hotel and were not allowed to contact
their parents," said R K Jaiswal, Senior Superintendent of Police, Jagraon.
The police have registered a case in Jagraon under Sections 406, 419,
423, 346, 247 and 506 IPC. Though the girls say that they were not harmed
physically, they doubted Amarjeet's intentions. "There was nothing wrong
that was done to us, but we doubted his intentions. He bore all our expenses
and never guided us if we did anything wrong," said Amandeep Kaur, one
of the rescued girls. Amarjeet is said to have taken Rupees 13,000 to
Rupees 25,000 from these girls, most of whom have just finished school.
A search and rescue operation has been launched for the remaining eight
girls. Jagraon police has approached police in Goa for assistance in tracing
these missing girls and having Amarjeet Singh arrested as soon as possible.
