Trans-border food festival in Ludhiana Ludhiana:
A trans-border food festival currently on in Ludhiana is attracting
foodies from all over the country and abroad. The weeklong festival, displaying
cuisines from south Asia, including Pakistan and Afghanistan, is receiving
tremendous response from lovers of fine food. Organised by India's garment
king Jiggs Kalra, the festival has both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian
varieties of Punjabi food, rich in taste, colour and display. Over 60
varieties of the world-famous Tandoori naan and chicken are being displayed
at the festival. From the subtle "Gharran da Khanna" (The home spread)
to the exotic "Swaad Galliyan da" (The great street food), the festival
is a sort of a trip down the memory lane with dishes like Meat Beli Ram,
Khaam Khatai, Aloobokhara Kofta and Bhatti da Murga. "Punjabi food has
been displaced. It has become more popular and more varieties have been
added to it. I would go to the extent of saying that it is the Punjabi
century now. Punjabi food has now spread outside India also," Kalra said.
Rhitmeyer, a tourist from France said: "Spicy food, for me it's good...chicken
and all. I really liked it." Rajinder Jindal, an Indian food connoisseur
said: "We came to the food fest after being told by some friends. We have
ordered for some snacks and they are just wonderful. We have also ordered
for the main course, I am hoping that will be equally good." Kalra also
plans to come up with another theme festival on summer, which would include
fruit and ice creams, meant to beat the sizzling heat.
