MF Hussain, Swaraj Group sign MOU

Artist MF Hussain has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Swarup Group of Industries to provide artists financial assistance. The Chief Managing Director of the Swarup Group, Guru Swarup Srivastava, gave a cheque of Rs11, 00,000 to Hussain on the occasion. "Earlier it used to be Rajas and Maharajas, they use to be patrons. Now the corporate sector has come in. It's good. You need the patronage of people to give confidence to creative artists," said Hussain. The group plans to invite foreign buyers to purchase 25 paintings on Earth done by Hussain. "I am very proud to be associated with this. We wish these paintings will convey the message of harmony, goodwill and peace, which is much needed in this world of turmoil," said Hussain. The Swarup Group proposes to offer not only foreign buyers but also Indian Corporates the opportunity of buying Hussain's paintings. Some of earnings from the sale of the paintings will go towards purchasing medical equipment like incubators for premature babies, inhaling machines to control the onset of asthma and heart pace makers. "As youngsters, we have respected him and his art. This is to encourage those young aspirants to help those who can arrange funds," said Shrivastva. The group claims that the MOU will not be exploited commercially.
