Punjab music festival in Delhi

New Delhi: Central Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni has inaugurated the three-day cultural and musical festival of Punjab at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) in Delhi. She said, "I am so proud that IGNCA and the Punjab Academy have brought this function for the people of Delhi. Its feature is the rich cultural heritage. I saw paintings and phulkaris (embroidery). These are beautiful. The musical instruments are rare." The event showcases cultural nuggets of Punjab's rural heartland. Though the farm-rich State has emerged as the frontrunner in hip-hop, but traditional music and cultural events still strike close chord in the State. The festival aims to provide an insight into the State's spiritual and musical heritage. The show has been put up jointly by the IGNCA and the Punjabi Academy.
