Nemu (Ladakh): A four-day long high adrenaline river rafting expedition by the Indian Army has ended on a successful note in Ladakh. Thirty-five persons from different army units took part in the Zanskar river rafting expedition. They traversed around 200 kms of the treacherous Zanksar before concluding the expedition at the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers at Nemu in Ladakh. Lieutenant General T A Dcunha, Director General of Army Ordnance Corps, who received the expedition at Nemu, said that such events played a major role in creating a balance in the lives of the army men. "It has been our endeavour to keep abreast and pace with our colleagues in the arms, and therefore, our younger blood and younger generation are encouraged to take part in all such physical activities and adventure activities for a balanced life," said Lt.General T A Dcunha. The frigid
waters of the Zanskar at seven degrees Celsius and a series of grade
3 and 4 rapids offered participants a different experience altogether.
"The water was very cold and the flow of water was really good. We could
experience the rapids till grade 4. Since there was no road support
available, the expedition was really adventurous," said Major Vijay
Raghyal, a participant. The participants also had a wonderful experience
in this expedition. "We really felt nice and we can participate in river
rafting competition in the future. We learnt how to save ourselves.
We gained experience from the drive which went for many days," said
one of the participants. The swift-flowing Indus and Zanskar rivers
offer rafting enthusiasts excellent venues for white-water rafting in
Ladakh. Rafting expeditions are organised from July to September and
usually cover the stretches of the Indus river between Hemis to Choglamsar
and Nemu to Phey in Ladakh. References: India News,
