Mumbai-based designers debut in Lakme Fashion Week
Mumbai: The
second day of the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) here saw two Mumbai
-based designers making their debut. In designer Bennu Sehgall's
'Original' drama was the key word as the collection was based
on a pastel colour palette of champagne to beige in chiffon
and satin as each garment dazzled on the ramp. An old world
charm was reflected in flowing gowns embellished with rhinestone
straps. Men's wear was flamboyant with chiffon pants, with
matching wrap skirts, pleated off white trousers and flowing
black tissues. "I used beige background and it captivates
mankind in elementary form and then I used black and white
which captivates the thoughts as they are evolving. Then I
used a tinge of colour which is the completeness of age and
coming of age and completeness of being," Sehgall said. Another
city-based designer Maheka Mirpuri, showcased the glamour
of the 'Bollywood Red Carpet' as the collection displayed
were inspired by 1970s Hindi films. Her collection was a mix
of western and traditional including from ethnic wears, saris
with animal prints, mini kurtis with leggings and salwar kameez.
Fabrics were chiffon, georgette, satin, denim and a dash of
leather. Mirpuri chooses the totally surreal world of Bollywood
in order to showcase her creations, which are all about glamour,
glitz and celebrity. LFW is the first event independently
organised by fashion accessories major, Lakme. It involves
events like media seminars, business-to-business meetings
and a buyers' forum, apart from the regular fashion shows.

with gold. Actor John Abraham turned up at the end of the
show clad in a black wedding suit, drawing a frenzy of applause
from the audience. Lakme Fashion India Week (LFW) involves
events like media seminars, business-to-business meetings

LFW is the first independently organised by fashion accessories
major, Lakme. Meanwhile, The Fashion Design Council of India
(FDCI) is holding another fashion week, the Wills Lifestyle
India Fashion Week from April 5-9 in New Delhi. Lakme had
sponsored the last three India Fashion Weeks. However, it
branched off on its own after FDCI announced it would be holding
separate fashion weeks for the spring/summer and fall/winter
collections from 2006. The two organisations could not agree
to the sponsorship amount for the events.
