Vogue launches Vogue India
New Delhi:
Vogue is getting set to launch a new magazine Vogue India.
It will be launched in Jodhpur on Sept 22. Edward Lalrempuia,
Junior Fashion Stylist, Vogue India, said that the launch
was extremely exciting for the magazine as India, with its
growing spending power, is an ideal market. "I think it is
an exciting time coz India's fashion is also growing and the
Indian customers, the market is so huge that we have so much
money. It is an exciting time. We are very excited that Vogue
is finally launching in India," he said. As for why the magazine
is just choosing to enter the Indian market, well that's because
Vogue feels that the time is finally right to do so. "Every
magazine has its time. You can't compare it with any other
magazines. It is very different from other magazine. This
stuff, style and content of the magazine is very different.
Vogue has a niche market. I think Conde thinks it is the right
time to come to India," he said. "It is a luxury magazine
so we are trying to rope in as many luxury products as possible.
At the same time we are trying to reach out to the masses.
It will definitely raise the fashion bar," he added. However,
he added that it would still take some time for India to be
at par with the international market. "I really don't think
just because Vogue is coming to India, it is suddenly at par
(with international market). We are not at par yet but it
is a big family market so we are trying to be at par with
international people, the West. I think it will still take
some time because the fashion industry in India is very young
as compared to Paris, Milan and London. It will take sometime
but we are growing," he said.

Northeast models, designers at Fashion
Week
New Delhi:
Models and designers from Northeast India made their presence
felt at a Fashion Week here recently. Esther Jamir, a Naga
model, feels proud to represent her state, and wishes that
other models from the region also make a name in the glamour
world. "They (girls) should come out and try. They are not
trying and once they will try, people will consider their
looks as common Indian commercial look. Right now, people
differentiate us. But once the northeast girls come up, they
will take us as common Indian looking models," Jamir said.
Shruti Agrawal, a model from Sikkim, who also made a mark
on the ramp at the Wills Lifestyle fashion week, said: "It
has gone very well, and this fashion week has proved positive
for me." A mix of North and East was visible in most of the
designer wears at the fashion extravaganza. Nordon Wangdia,
a designer from Sikkim, created clothes that were a mixture
of tradition and modernity. He feels the time has come when
the country recognises the talents of the fashion conscious
Northeast. Wangdi said: "Everybody is coming out in different
areas and different spheres of life, and it's a great thing.
Be it music or any other field, I want that everybody should
go for it. Nothing is impossible." The number of models and
designers from the northeast trying to establish themselves
in the fashion industry has gone up in the last few years.
One of the best models from the Northeast is Monikangna Dutta
from Assam, who recently shifted her base to Mumbai.
